Toilet Unclogging details
Standing in ankle deep water during a shower is no way to start the day. Fullerton unclogs shower drains, tubs and bathroom sinks across New Jersey, clearing hair and soap buildup all the way through the trap.
Quick answer: We work through the drain opening itself. Our drain tech removes the strainer, runs a small bathroom cable into the trap and pulls the hair mass out. There is no cutting into tile or the shower floor. Once the drain flows freely, we reinstall the strainer and wipe the shower down before we leave.
Bathroom drains clog for a predictable reason: hair. Each shower sends strands down the drain, and they wrap around the stopper, the crossbars and the inside of the trap. Soap and conditioner coat the hair and bind it into a thick, slimy mat. Toothpaste, shaving cream and skin products do the same thing in the bathroom sink. The drain slows a little each week until water stands in the tub or the sink takes minutes to empty. A plastic hair tool can pull out what sits near the top, but the real mass usually lives in the trap below, where those tools cannot reach.
Fullerton drain techs clear bathroom drains without tearing up your tub or tile. We remove the stopper or strainer, run a small diameter cable sized for bathroom lines, and pull the hair mass out instead of shoving it farther along. When a tub and a sink share a branch line, we clear the shared section too, since a clog there slows both fixtures at once. We test the drain with full flow, put the stopper back, and wipe up. If more than one bathroom is slow, or the toilet gurgles when the tub drains, we check whether the problem runs deeper toward the main line.

We check which bathroom fixtures are slow and whether they share a line. You get an upfront quote before work starts. We protect the tub, vanity and floor with drop cloths before any tools come out of the bag.
Our drain tech removes the pop up stopper, strainer or tub overflow plate. That gives a direct path into the trap and lets us see the hair buildup near the top of the drain before we run a cable deeper.
We run a bathroom sized cable with a head that grabs hair and soap mats. We pull the mass back out of the drain rather than pushing it farther down the line, where it could catch on something and clog again later.
We run water at full flow to confirm the drain empties quickly, then reinstall the stopper or strainer. We wipe down the tub and vanity and remove the debris we pulled out, so the bathroom is clean when we leave.
Many bathrooms in prewar New Jersey homes still have cast iron tub drains and drum traps hidden beneath the floor. Drum traps are round canisters that were common in older houses before modern P traps became standard. They collect hair and soap sludge in a wide chamber, which makes them hard to clear with a basic snake. If your tub is in an older home and never seems to drain well for long, a drum trap may be part of the reason. Our drain techs recognize these setups and know how to clear them through the access cover when one is present.
Bathrooms in postwar ranches and split levels across Bergen, Morris and Middlesex counties often have tubs and sinks tied into a shared branch line that runs inside a wet wall. That shared section is where soap scum from several fixtures meets and hardens. Hard water in parts of the state can add mineral scale to the mix, making the inside of the pipe even rougher. A drain cover with a fine screen catches most hair before it reaches the trap. Cleaning that screen once a week prevents most bathroom clogs from forming at all.
The price depends on which fixture is clogged, how the drain is built and how deep the blockage goes. A sink trap full of hair is quicker than an old drum trap under a tub floor. Shared branch lines that slow several fixtures take more time to clear. Some stoppers and overflow plates are easy to remove while others are corroded in place. Hard water scale may call for extra passes. Before any work starts, you get an upfront quote so the price is clear.

Store bought tools often pull out the top of the clog but leave a soap and hair mat deeper in the trap. New hair catches on what is left and the drain slows again within weeks. A cable that reaches through the trap removes the whole mass, so the drain stays clear far longer.
A drum trap is a round metal canister beneath an older tub that holds water to block sewer gas. Many prewar New Jersey homes still have them. They collect hair and sludge and are harder to clear than modern traps. Our drain techs open the access cover when present and clean the chamber directly.
Yes. Hard water leaves mineral scale on the inside of drain pipes. Scale roughens the surface, which helps soap scum and hair stick. Over time, the pipe opening narrows. Clearing the clog fixes the immediate problem, and periodic cleaning keeps scale and soap buildup from closing the drain again.
Gurgling usually means air is being pulled through the toilet because the shared drain line or vent is partly blocked. The tub water cannot flow freely, so it draws air from the nearest opening. We check the shared branch and, if needed, the main line to find where the restriction actually sits.
